York United signs Brazilian defender Eduardo Jesus on two-year deal

York United FC is delighted to announce the signing of Brazilian defender Eduardo Jesus.

The 19-year-old left-back joins on a two-year deal, with a club option until the end of 2024.

Jesus spent his youth career with well-known side Vitória, an organization noted for its superb underage setup. Notable former graduates include David Luiz, Hulk, Dida and Bebeto. While at the Bahia-based outfit, Jesus also enjoyed loan spells at Palmeiras and Fluminense.

A pacy defender with a deft touch and explosive ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch, Jesus is a thrilling prospect who has already represented Brazil at both Under-16 and Under-17 levels. Always a threat from wide areas (and set-pieces), he also offers flexibility and can slot into a central midfield role if required.

Jesus is the latest off-season arrival, following in the footsteps of Mamadou Kane and Daniel Obbekjaer, as The Nine Stripes prepares for the 2022 Canadian Premier League campaign.

“Eduardo is an exciting player who can play at both left-back and as a defensive midfielder,” says CEO/President & GM Angus McNab.

“He possesses a dangerous delivery and is a real shooting threat from set pieces too. He’ll bring the best out of both Diyaeddine Abzi and his compatriot William Wallace on the left side next year.”
