After his Cavalry FC side went without a loss during May in CPL action, Tommy Wheeldon Jr. has been named the league’s manager of the month.

Wheeldon and Cavalry kicked off May by defeating Pacific FC 2-0 in their home opener at Spruce Meadows, and didn’t look back picking up four wins and a draw. They also scored 10 goals during the month, allowing only three.

In a month of dramatic late winners, they scored stoppage-time goals in back-to-back matches, to salvage an away draw against Halifax on May 15, before collecting all three points at home against Valour on May 21, courtesy of Elijah Adekugbe’s late winner.

Wheeldon follows in the footsteps of James Merriman, who won the league’s Manager of the Month award for April. Now his Cavalry group is hot on the heals of Merriman’s Pacific at the top of the Canadian Premier League table, now just four points behind with two games in hand.
