Concacaf announces 2023-24 Nations League Finals to be played in Dallas, key info about 2024 Copa America qualification

This week Concacaf announced that the 2023-24 Nations League Finals will be played at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, as well as key details about the finals, and 2024 Copa America qualifying. AT&T Stadium is the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, as well as a host stadium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Canadian men’s national team will be looking to avenge a 2-0 loss to the United States in the 2022-23 Nations League Final, which took place in Las Vegas back in June. The United States have now won both Concacaf Nations League Finals.

First, however, Canada have to take care of business in this year’s quarter-finals against Jamaica in a two-legged tie which begins this Friday, November 17 in Jamaica, with the second leg on Tuesday, November 21 at Toronto’s BMO Field. Defeat Jamaica and Canada will book their ticket to Dallas, and a spot in the 2023-24 semifinals, which will take place on Thursday, March 21. The final, and third-place match, will both take place on Sunday, March 24.

The semifinal matchups will be determined by quarter-final results, with the winners being ranked 1-4 based on points from those two legs (the usual three for a win, one for a draw etc.) with goal difference as the next tiebreaker. The other quarter-finals include Mexico taking on Honduras, the United States against Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica versus Panama. A win against the Reggae Boyz would also secure Canada a spot in the 2024 Copa America.

Should Canada lose that series against Jamaica, they will still be headed to Texas in March, but instead to Frisco where they would play a Copa America play-in match on Saturday, March 23 at Toyota Stadium, home of Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas. The pairings for this round will be determined by November 2023’s Concacaf national team rankings, with the highest-ranked team playing the lowest, and the second-highest playing the third-highest-ranked team of the losing quarterfinalists. Canada are currently ranked fourth by Concacaf, behind Panama, the United States and Mexico. The winner of that single play-in match will earn one of Concacaf’s six spots in the 2024 Copa America tournament.
