Mauro Eustáquio joins Jesse Marsch’s CANMNT coaching staff for upcoming friendlies

York United FC Assistant Coach Mauro Eustáquio has joined Jesse Marsch’s coaching staff ahead of two upcoming friendlies for the Canadian Men’s National Team.

Saturday, September 7 sees the side take on the United States in Kansas City before they face Mexico in Arlington on Tuesday, September 10.

31-year-old Eustáquio has been with The Nine Stripes since 2022 and is a former CANMNT youth international. Having earned his UEFA B Coaching Licence earlier this year, he took interim charge of the club for two Canadian Premier League games following the departure of Martin Nash.

“Mauro has a big future,” says Benjamín Mora, Head Coach of York United FC. “He’s a very humble guy. He’s grown a lot in the past six months. He has knowledge of the game, knowledge of what it means to be a player. With all of that, and with his age and willingness to grow, I think he will rise to become a top coach in this part of the world.”

Older brother of midfielder Stephen Eustáquio, Mauro’s addition to the technical staff makes them the first ever coach-player sibling duo to participate in a CANMNT camp.

“Everyone involved with our club is immensely proud of Mauro,” says Ricardo Pasquel, General Manager and President of York United FC.

“This news is a reflection of the work he puts into his craft every day. He’s a wonderful young coach with so much potential and we’re fortunate to have him. We wish him well for these two exciting and high-profile games and it means a lot that Jesse Marsch and everyone at Canada Soccer are paying such close attention to the coaching talent that exists within the CPL.”

Eustáquio’s inclusion means he will miss York United’s next two games – today’s away clash with Halifax Wanderers and Friday’s assignment with Vancouver FC in Langley – but he will return in advance of the team’s September 13th home fixture with Cavalry FC at York Lions Stadium.
