Cavalry FC forward Tobias Warschewski was named the Canadian Premier League’s first ever CPL Final MVP Fuelled by Gatorade on Saturday, after his side defeated Forge FC 2-1 to win the North Star Cup and be crowned CPL Champions for the first time.
Warschewski scored the opening goal of the match from a penalty kick, and six minutes after that he assisted Sergio Camargo’s goal to put the home side ahead 2-0.
The German forward, who also recently won the CPL’s Golden Boot award thanks to his 12-goal performance in the regular season, was outstanding throughout his 82 minutes of work, making significant contributions defensively to help Cavalry hold onto their lead in the second half.
The CPL Final MVP Fuelled by Gatorade was unveiled as a new honour at Thursday night’s CPL Awards show, and was determined based on voting by select media members who covered the league throughout the 2024 CPL season.
As winner of the award, Warschewski received a unique piece of Inuit soapstone art, the Narwhal, in recognition of his performance.
