The Canadian women’s national team announced their 23-player squad on Thursday for upcoming international friendlies against Iceland and Korea Republic.
After last month’s team, which played Spain to a 1-1 draw, was fairly status quo this group features several new faces. Canada take on Iceland on Nov. 29, and Korea on Dec. 3. Both matches will be available live on OneSoccer.
The average age of this team is 23, owing partly to first-time call-ups for U-20 standouts Janet Okeke (North Carolina State) and Nyah Rose (Southern Methodist University). Jeneva Hernandez Gray (Vancouver Whitecaps), meanwhile, receives her second national team call-up at just 18.
U-20 national team head coach Cindy Tye will lead the interim coaching staff. Andy Spence, the interim coach during the Olympics, was unavailable during this camp but is scheduled to return next window per Canada Soccer.
Unfortunately, Nyah Rose’s first call-up will not be in a camp featuring her national team mainstay sister Jade — who misses out through injury. Canada Soccer also revealed that Quinn, Kadeisha Buchanan, Sydney Collins and Cloé Lacasse are absent due to injury, while Jordyn Huitema is unavailable for personal reasons.
