York United FC exercise 2025 contract option for attacker Marki Voytsekhovskyy

York United FC have announced the return of attacker Marki Voytsekhovskyy, exercising their contract option to bring the 21-year-old back to the Nine Stripes for a third campaign.

A key contributor across the past two seasons, the Ukrainian-born forward enjoyed a memorable 2024 and racked up his best ever numbers for the side.

In total, he made 14 appearances and found the net twice. The first came in a 2-2 home draw with Vancouver FC, with the youngster cleverly finishing at the near post to give his team the lead. He grabbed another crucial goal at York Lions Stadium when the Halifax Wanderers came to town, popping up at the back post to head home and open the scoring once again in a 2-1 home victory.

Overall, Voytsekhovskyy has made 22 appearances for the club and netted three times.

“I’m very happy to be back for another season and build on what we put together in 2024,” Voytsekhovskyy said. “Personally, I enjoyed some nice moments and the team made a statement by reaching the playoffs and making that push. The objective now is to keep that momentum going and make 2025 something special for us and the supporters.”

Prior to joining The Nine Stripes, Voytsekhovskyy spent time with League1 Ontario side Prostars FC and was a standout, named the league’s Young Player of the Year and was also included in the Team of the Year.

A native of Lviv, Ukraine, he previously spent time with the Shakhtar Donetsk academy. Voytsekhovskyy played a number of games with Guelph United “B” in the L1O Reserve League in 2021 and scored four goals in five regular season appearances.

“Marki is still such a young player but has racked up plenty of professional experience now so we’re incredibly excited by him returning and continuing his development with us,” says Ricardo Pasquel, President of York United FC. “He doubled his club appearance tally in 2024 and more than trebled his minutes. Having him add some goals was a big bonus because he is such a threat going forward. So, he’s laid a solid foundation for himself and we know he’ll be a key contributor for us next season.”
