Canadian Premier League unveils the North Star Shield

Toronto, ON (October 25, 2019) – Today at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, ON the Canadian Premier League unveiled its coveted award that the Canadian Premier League Champions will win. The North Star Shield is the first permanent prize in the League’s history that will be awarded at the conclusion of the second leg of the first Canadian Premier League Finals on November 2, 2019.

Taking their cue from Club fans and supporters who contributed to the creation of the Canadian Premier League logo, our designers created the North Star Shield made of solid crystal and featuring a 3D laser engraving of the League’s crest.

This unique crystal features diamond etching within the League’s crest to refract light. The base made of Canadian Maple pays homage to our land.
The original North Star Shield will be kept by the Canadian Premier League and a unique version will be awarded to the winning Club each year with the names of the winning Players, Coaches and Owners engraved onto it.

The North Star Shield measures 35cm (14 inches) in diameter, 4cm (1.5 inches) thick and weighs in at approximately 7kg (15 pounds). It has been intentionally designed to have a significant weight as a symbol of the effort it takes to win the Finals.

“The Shield is inspired by and named for The North Star and is a depiction of the League’s identity. The North Star demonstrates and acts as a guiding light for soccer in Canada, a beacon for talent within our borders and a reminder of our purpose: For Canadians, by Canadians,” said David Clanachan, Commissioner, Canadian Premier League. “A dream for kids from the Atlantic to the Arctic to the Pacific Ocean is to play in a professional league of their own. This is the focal point of the Canadian Premier League’s identity and it is displayed at the centre of the League’s crest.”
