Canadian Premier League in Partnership with Electronic Arts Announce eCPL League for 2020

Toronto, ON – February 14, 2020 – Today, the Canadian Premier League and Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) announce the inaugural eCanadian Premier League (eCPL) tournament, offering Canadians the chance to compete for and represent their favourite CPL Club for the first time ever in competitive gaming.

All eight CPL clubs are represented in the tournament, giving players the chance to live their dream of winning a title for their favourite club. The eCPL Final will be played in Toronto, ON on May 9, 2020 and broadcast live on OneSoccer and Twitch. It is the newest league partner and first Canadian league to be added to the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 20 Global Series.

“Partnering with EA for the first all-Canadian eCPL league is another proud moment for us,” said David Clanachan, Commissioner, CPL. “Reaching the global audience through FIFA gamers and the Esports competition is an incredible opportunity for us and in line with our mission to develop good young Canadian players and open the doors of opportunities in the world of professional football – we see this competition as an extension of that and can’t wait too kick-off on February 29.”

The eCPL competitive gaming tournament on EA SPORTS FIFA 20 kicks off on February 29 and will be available on PlayStation®4. Players will compete across eight online club qualification weekends and eight live city qualifiers. The 16 Esports players from across the nation that secure a qualification birth will travel to Toronto to compete in the eCPL Final presented by OneSoccer.

Winnipeg’s live city qualification event will take place March 21 (registration opens March 6) and the online qualification weekend will take place March 28-29 (registration opens March 13). The winners will represented the Club at the eCPL Final. Registrations for the tournament will open on February 15, 2020.

Performing well in the eCPL will also earn players the bonus of valuable season-long EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series Points used to qualify for the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series Playoffs.
