Cavalry FC revealed Sunday that Brazilian forward Oliver Minatel is recovering after undergoing surgery in PEI.
Minatel sustained a fractured tibia and fibula during Cavalry’s 2-0 win over York9 FC on Saturday.
The Cavs’ training staff and on-call paramedics were quick to respond and assess the injury on the pitch, before Minatel was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown.

The Brazilian had a successful surgery on Saturday evening, and he will remain with the team through the remainder of The Island Games.
“We wish Oliver a speedy recovery from this and are comforted knowing he is the ultimate professional that will do whatever it takes to return to the pitch for us next season,” Cavalry coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said.
“It shows the incredible character Oliver has that as soon as he came out of surgery, he immediately sent a congratulatory note to the team on our group chat.”
