LSSE, Saskatchewan Soccer Association announce Soccer Town Saskatchewan competition for local clubs

The Saskatchewan Soccer Association, in conjunction with Living Sky Sports and Entertainment (the ownership group with exclusive rights to a CPL expansion side in Saskatoon), announced on Tuesday the launch of Soccer Town Saskatchewan.

The competition, which will be open to all 57 of the SSA’s member organizations, will provide local clubs with the opportunity to win $5,000 toward facility upgrades or equipment, as well as earning the title of Soccer Town Saskatchewan.

Clubs will enter the competition by sharing short video clips from both youth and adult soccer organizations, demonstrating the local passion for the game, as well as excitement for the CPL coming to Saskatchewan and support for the club’s soccer-specific stadium project located at Prarieland Park in Saskatoon.

The winning entry will be judged on a variety of criteria, with one organization winning the grand prize.

“LSSE is honored to join SSA in support of Soccer Town Saskatchewan. This wonderful initiative will benefit a club or organization in the province with funds to enhance the soccer infrastructure or equipment needs in their community – and that’s a good thing,” said LSSE founder Al Simpson, who is leading efforts to bring the CPL to Saskatoon.

“As the game of soccer continues to grow worldwide with Canada and Saskatchewan being no exception, LSSE is hopeful that we can bring a professional team to the province. We believe a pro team will give our local players who aspire to play professionally the opportunity to play at home, and just as importantly, our Saskatchewan fans of the game a team of their own to cheer and support.”

The Soccer Town Saskatchewan contest will run until June 29, when the winner will be revealed on social media. Organizations must declare their intention to participate by May 31, with videos launching on the SSA and LSSE social media channels on June 5.
