CanMNT’s Larin & Hutchinson win Turkish Cup, capture domestic double with Besiktas

Canadians Cyle Larin and Atiba Hutchinson completed a domestic double with Besiktas Tuesday, capturing the Turkish Cup with a 2-0 win over Antalyaspor.

Larin and Hutchinson started the cup final, with the latter being taken off after 78 minutes, just a few days after capturing the Turkish Süper Lig title with Besiktas with a dramatic 2-1 win over Göztepe.

Larin (33 caps for Canada, 12 goals) scored three times in the club’s run to the cup final – including a dramatic extra-time winner in the semi-final over Başakşehir.

The Canadian duo were instrumental in the Besiktas league championship run with Larin supplying a team-high 19 goals (finishing second for the Turkish golden boot) and Hutchinson, 38, supplying a staggering 34 league appearances and four goals in his eighth season with the club.

Larin and Hutchinson (85 caps for Canada) are just the latest Canadians to win top tier titles in Europe, joining Scott Arfield (Rangers, Scotland), Milan Borjan (Red Star Belgrade, Serbia), Jessie Fleming (Chelsea, England), and Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich, Germany) – the latter two of which coming just last week.

Canadian Jonathan David could add another title this Sunday, as his Lille OSC look to clinch France’s Ligue 1 (live on OneSoccer).
