Premier Performer Presented by Volkswagen

During the 2019 season, CPL Club players will compete for a chance to win a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. Players will be given a score from 1-100 for their contribution to the match via data and statistics from every match that will result in a final ranking at the end of the season and ultimately result in a Canadian Premier League Club player being crowned the “Premier Performer”.

Marco Carducci is your 2019 Volkswagen Premier Performer.

The 23-year-old took home a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI at Tuesday’s 2019 Canadian Premier League Awards in Toronto after capturing the season-long, Volkswagen Premier Performer distinction based on data and statistical performance. Carducci led for most of the Fall season in Premier Performer tallys as Cavalry’s no. 1 ‘keeper, ending with an average score of 77.36. He wasn’t much farther ahead of fellow Golden Glove candidate Nathan Ingham, who ended an average of 76.74 over a full season with York9 FC.

It’s been a whirlwind season for the Calgarian. He made history in September as the first CPL player called up the Canadian men’s national team, en route to backstopping his pro side to Finals 2019. Here’s how he won Premier Performer:

About the Program

Volkswagen Canada in partnership with the Canadian Premier League will create an exclusive opportunity for CPL Club players to compete for a chance to show what makes them a “Premier Performer” in the Inaugural Season that begins April 27, 2019. The winning criteria will bring to life the synergy between the best players and an elite vehicle – the Canadian Premier League “Premier Performer” presented by Volkswagen Canada will be chosen based on an algorithm developed by CPL Soccer Operations in conjunction with its data analysis provider, Sportlogiq that will culminate in the winning player receiving a 2019 Jetta GLI, a prominent vehicle launched this year.

How Does It Work?

During an average soccer match over 3,000 events take place on the ball. Every touch, tackle, pass, shot and many more actions are recorded with information which includes their location, the players involved, their success and many much more. Using Sportlogiq’s optical tracking software, this can be taken a step further and players can be scored on manipulation of spaces and the difficulty of their actions. Players are given a score from 1-100 for their contribution to the match via data and statistics from every match that will result in a final ranking at the end of the season and ultimately result in a Canadian Premier League Club player being crowned the “Premier Performer.”
