2025 TELUS Canadian Championship draw set for Thursday, Dec. 12

Canada Soccer revealed this week that the draw for the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship will take place this Thursday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, with 15 clubs from across the country set to learn their path to the Voyageurs’ Cup.

This edition of the competition will be the largest yet, as Edmonton Scottish United SC are set to be the first ever representative of League1 Alberta in the nation’s premier domestic cup competition.

Also in the mix this year, as usual, are all eight Canadian Premier League sides, the three Canadian Major League Soccer clubs, and representatives from League1 BC, League1 Ontario and Ligue1 Québec.

As reigning champions, Vancouver Whitecaps FC will receive a bye to the quarter-finals. They defeated Toronto FC on penalties in the 2024 final to win a third consecutive Voyageurs’ Cup — the fourth triumph in club history.

TSS Rovers will be back in the tournament for a third time after finishing atop the League1 BC regular season table in 2024, having completed the double by also beating Altitude FC in the L1BC playoff final. Ontario will be represented, for the first time, by Milton-based Scrosoppi FC who won their first L1O title in 2024. Meanwhile, FC Laval were crowned champions in Ligue1 Québec, and will therefore make their second appearance in this competition.

Edmonton Scottish were the inaugural champions in League1 Alberta, and will represent the new league for the first time.

This year’s draw for the preliminary and quarter-final rounds will be conducted in a regionalized format, with six teams — including four CPL teams and the two semi-pro clubs from B.C. and Alberta — in the West side, and eight teams — comprising two MLS teams, four CPL sides and semi-pro representatives from Ontario and Québec — in the East. League1 sides will be unable to draw each other in the preliminary round.

The higher-seeded team, based on Canada Soccer’s Club Ranking Index, will earn the right to host their preliminary round tie.

A new draw will be conducted following the quarter-final round to determine semi-final matchups.

The draw will be broadcast live on OneSoccer at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
