Alejandro Diaz heads to Norway on Pacific FC club-record transfer

Pacific FC announced today the transfer of striker Alejandro “Wero” Diaz to Sogndal Football in 1. Division, the second tier of the Norwegian football league system.

The club-record sale is currently the second-largest transfer in league history, with the potential to become the largest ever CPL transfer based on conditional performance objectives.

“We would like to thank Alejandro for his service to our club over the past three seasons, and for the joy he has brought to fans of Pacific FC on and off the field,” said CEO Rob Friend. “As a club, we are committed to helping our players develop and achieve new levels of success by carving out new opportunities in leagues around the world. As we help our players ascend, we are proud to set new benchmarks in terms of transfer fees for our league, which we look forward to reinvesting into Canadian soccer.”

Diaz, 26, has scored 31 goals in 62 overall appearances for the club since 2022. The native of Mexico is the current top scorer in the CPL, with 13 goals. He helped Pacific FC to a CPL championship in 2021, which also secured the club its place in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf League.

“We wish Alejandro all the best as he embarks on a new chapter of his career,” said Pacific FC head coach James Merriman. “While we will miss having Alejandro lead our line, we are confident in the talent and depth that remains in our team and are excited to be taking on CS Herediano in Round of 16 play starting next week. We look forward to having Alejandro’s support from afar as we continue our run in the CPL and the Concacaf League.”

Pacific FC will host CS Herediano on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at Starlight Stadium, before traveling to San Jose, Costa Rica for the second leg of Round of 16 play on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Fans interested in attending the home leg of the matchup can buy tickets here.
