Former Pacific FC striker Alejandro Diaz was awarded the Canadian Premier League’s Golden Boot after the conclusion of the 2022 regular season on Sunday.

The 26-year-old scored 13 goals in 18 matches for the defending champions to top the goalscoring leaderboard. York United’s Osaze De Rosario finished in second with 12, while Halifax’s Samuel Salter finished the season with 11 goals. While not counting toward that total, Diaz also scored a hattrick in Pacific’s first-ever continental victory, 6-0 over Waterhouse FC.

Diaz was transferred to Norwegian second division side Sogndal on August 10, where he has picked up where he left off. The Mexican youth international has five goals, including a hat trick yesterday, in eight matches since joining his new club.

Diaz is the fourth recipient of the league’s Golden Boot. Forge’s Tristan Borges was the league’s leading scorer in its inaugural season in 2019, before a pair of HFX Wanderers players, Akeem Garcia and then João Morelli won the award in the two subsequent seasons.
