Canada’s Alphonso Davies has been recognized as one of the best young players in Europe.
Davies, 18, was shortlisted for the 2019 Golden Boy award Tuesday alongside another 19 young players across Europe.
The Bayern Munich winger moved from Vancouver Whitecaps in January on an MLS-record transfer fee of $22-million. The Edmonton native has played 10 times for Bayern’s first team, scoring two goals.

Davies will be in the lineup for Canada’s men’s national team when they host the U.S. in CONCACAF Nations League play.
The winner of the award, selected by European soccer journalists, will be announced on Dec. 16.
Nominated players must be under the age of 21 and play in a European top tier. Former winners include Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Mario Balotelli, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe.
