Atlético Ottawa announced on Tuesday the contract status of players from the club’s 2023 roster, following the conclusion of the Canadian Premier League season.

Nine players from the club’s 2023 squad have guaranteed contracts for the 2024 season: defenders Karl Ouimette and Aboubakary Sacko; midfielders Gabriel Antinoro, Ollie Bassett and Noah Verhoeven; and forwards Rubén del Campo, Gianni Dos Santos and Samuel Salter. An option for 2024 on Alberto Zapater’s contract was automatically triggered after an appearance clause was met.

Atlético has until Dec. 31, 2023 to trigger club options for 2024 on four players: defenders Miguel Acosta and Zachary Roy, and forwards Zachary Verhoven and Malcolm Shaw.

Contracts for Carl Haworth — who retired from playing following the 2023 season — Nathan Ingham, Sean Melvin, MacDonald Niba and Maxim Tissot expire at the end of the year.

Loan spells for Jean-Aniel Assi (CF Montréal), Ilias Iliadis (CF Montréal), Diego Espejo (Atlético de Madrid) and Luke Singh (Toronto FC) have ended.

Atlético has retained the U SPORTS rights for local defender Tyr Walker, who signed a U SPORTS contract in April, while the development permit for midfield Omar Darwish has expired. Darwish is eligible for a U SPORTS contract in 2024.

After ensuring Carlos González and his coaching staff would return for the 2024 season, the club started active conversations with players under contract and players whose contract will expire at the end of the year. The club is currently in negotiations with some of these players and expects to have more clarity on each situation soon, while also engaging with new promising prospects that have been identified. Further roster updates will be provided in the coming weeks.
