Atlético Ottawa announced on Monday a handful of changes in the club’s front office. Most notably, defender Karl Ouimette has opted to step away from playing, instead joining the team off the pitch in the role of Business Development Executive.
Ouimette will join fellow former Atleti player Drew Beckie, who has been promoted from Team Manager to Director of Development and Player Engagement. He will be tasked with creating the development pathway to ensure that the club improves the identification of local players and facilitates their pathway to professionalism. Ouimette will work closely with Beckie, the club said in their release, on the developing side of the club, as well as focusing on developing new soccer business opportunities for the club, including building more soccer alliances in the Quebec region.
In one season for Ottawa, Ouimette played 26 games. His career prior to arriving in the Canadian Premier League was likewise successful, having played 12 years in Canada and the United States, including for Major League Soccer clubs CF Montréal and New York Red Bulls.
