Atlético Ottawa officially clinched the Canadian Premier League’s 2022 regular season championship on Saturday night after Pacific FC lost 1-0 to Cavalry FC.
With the Tridents now locked in at 47 points at the end of their regular season campaign, no CPL side can pass Ottawa’s club-record total of 48 — even before Atleti play their 28th match on Sunday evening.
After finishing bottom of the table in 2021, Ottawa under new head coach Carlos González have had a vastly improved season, with 13 wins, nine draws, and five losses plus one additional match left to play (against York United on Sunday at TD Place).
As a result of winning the regular season title — the first title in club history — Atlético Ottawa have also ensured home field advantage for themselves throughout their first playoff run. They’ll host the second leg of the semifinal on Sunday, Oct. 23, and if they win that tie, they’ll host the CPL Final at TD Place the following weekend.
Ottawa will celebrate their regular season title after their final regular season match, kicking off at 6 p.m. ET at TD Place.
