Inaugural CPL match could set Hamilton stadium record

Co-Founder Bob Young and Forge FC have made the decision to give the Canadian Premier League’s Inaugural Match on April 27 back to the Hamilton community with the ‘Soccer Unites Hamilton’ initiative. The club will look to set an all-time sporting attendance record at Tim Hortons Field, while holding a contest for the remaining match tickets and raising money to support youth soccer in Hamilton.

All soccer fans, on a first-come, first-served basis, will be eligible to win tickets to the Inaugural Match through the ‘Soccer Unites Hamilton’ contest. Fans interested in signing up for the contest to win tickets can submit their name and email address online at Those in attendance at the match will be asked to make a small voluntary donation as Forge FC looks to raise $50,000 for youth soccer in Hamilton.

“Events like the launch of a national Canadian soccer league don’t come along very often, and we are celebrating accordingly,” said Young. “The whole Canadian Premier League (CPL) journey started in Hamilton almost five years ago, and it’s appropriate that the first-ever CPL match will take place at Tim Hortons Field.”

Young added, “The opening match in our new league deserves to have as many fans in attendance as possible to partake in this ‘I was there’ moment in Hamilton sports history. Our Soccer Unites Hamilton promotion is a small thank you to our fellow citizens who helped make Tim Hortons Field into one of Canada’s premier outdoor entertainment facilities and a destination for elite soccer competition. Thanks to this support, and the reputation it has created for Hamilton nationally as a soccer community, we can now host significant events like the CPL’s Inaugural Match.”

Being selected to host this monumental and historic day for the sport of soccer in Canada emphasizes Hamilton’s pivotal role in redefining the nation’s landscape for ‘the beautiful game.’ In an effort to set an all-time sporting attendance record at Tim Hortons Field, the club will expand capacity from 10,016 for a regular Forge FC match to beyond the stadium’s full seated capacity of 23,218 seats for this match only. As a result, all of the unique social viewing areas the stadium has become known for, including The Stipley and Coors Light Patio, will also be open and part of the contest.

In addition to the seats they’ve already secured for the season, an extremely limited amount of lower bowl tickets for the Inaugural Match will be available exclusively for Forge FC Co-Founders upon request at no charge (one per seat in their account). Co-Founders will also receive additional tickets to Forge FC’s Canadian Championship match in June at no charge (one per seat in their account).
