Toronto, ON (January 20, 2022) –  The Canadian Premier League announced the 16 draft picks from the 2022 CPL-U SPORTS Draft during a live presentation held today. Sixteen draftees will be invited to their club’s preseason training, with the hopes of securing a 2022 U SPORTS Developmental Contract for the upcoming season.

The player draft picks were announced in succession on January 20, 2022 at 8:00pm ET on @cplsoccer YouTube, Twitter,  Facebook,, on OneSoccer YouTube and CBC Gem.

1st Round CPL-U SPORTS Draft Selection*:

  1. Atlético Ottawa – José Cunha – Cape Breton University
  2. FC Edmonton – Kairo Coore – Cape Breton University
  3. HFX Wanderers FC – Christopher Campoli – Ontario Tech University 
  4. Valour FC – Raine Lyn – Cape Breton University
  5. York United FC – Christian Rossi – Trinity Western University
  6. Cavalry FC – Caden Rogozinski – Mount Royal University
  7. Forge FC – Guillaume Pianelli – Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières
  8. Pacific FC – Luca Ricci – Université de Montréal

2nd Round CPL-U SPORTS Draft Selection*:

  1. Atlético Ottawa – Julien Bruce – Université de Montréal
  2. FC Edmonton – Quentin Paumier – Université de Montréal
  3. HFX Wanderers FC – Colin Gander – University of Guelph 
  4. Valour FC – Jacob Carlos – Ryerson University
  5. York United FC – Soji Olatoye – York University
  6. Cavalry FC – Markus Kaiser – University of British Columbia
  7. Forge FC – Mohamed Alshakman – McMaster University
  8. Pacific FC – Rees Goertzen – University of Victoria

*Selection Order was determined based on the full 2021 season, including Playoffs and Final standings and both rounds started with 8th place (reverse order) with Atlético Ottawa receiving the first selection in both rounds.

Since 2018 the Canadian Premier League has held a draft for eligible U SPORTS men’s soccer players who have registered and declared themselves available to be selected through the League’s annual draft.
