Canadian Premier League releases limited edition 2022 coin

Toronto, ON – (May 19, 2022) – The Canadian Premier League (CPL) unveiled on Thursday the official league coin of the 2022 season, its colourful design inspired by Canada and the league’s unique connections to the northern lights.

CPL fans can vie to purchase one of 200 limited-edition commemorative coins by entering a lottery system before Monday, May 23 at 11:59 p.m. ET/ 7:59 p.m. ET.

Canada is home to some of the best vantage points in the world for observing the northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis. This year’s coin design incorporates the phenomenon’s vibrant colours, from striking green to shades of blue and pink, as they illuminate the night sky in a stunning natural light show. Referees will use this year’s coin design during the coin toss ceremony ahead of every CPL match.

The northern lights are a touchstone in the league this season, inspiring the design of the coins as well as the 2022 CPL DERBYSTAR Official Match Ball. The sky embodies the endless opportunities for the game of soccer in the country, while the layered cosmic effect is emblematic of the powerful athletes that collide on CPL pitches. Together, they put on breathtaking and electrifying displays that connect with Canadians.

Fans interested in purchasing a coin through the lottery system must register with a credit card at canpl.ca/coinlottery. Winners will be drawn at random and contacted within 72 hours of the closing of the lottery. Payments will be processed in that time.

The 2022 league coins retails for $49.99 CAD plus taxes and will include free shipping. The lottery is limited to one entry per person.
