CanMNT to face Japan in October international friendly

The Canadian men’s national team will take on Japan in an international friendly on Friday October 13, 2023, Canada Soccer revealed on Tuesday.

The match will be played in Japan at the Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata. Japan, currently ranked 20th in the World by FIFA, are coming off a World Cup campaign in which they defeated both Spain and Germany before falling to Croatia in penalties during the round of 16.

Canada played against Japan in a friendly this past November as part of its World Cup preparations, winning 2-1 on a stoppage-time panenka penalty from Lucas Cavallini.

Canada Soccer also announced on Tuesday that they will not play a match during the September international window. The national team is currently preparing for a crucial two-legged Concacaf Nations League quarter-final in the November international window.

Winning that would mean qualification for the 2024 Copa America tournament. They will learn their opponent for those matches at the end of the October international window.

All of Canada’s upcoming matches will be available live on OneSoccer. The kickoff time for Canada vs. Japan will be confirmed at a later date.
