CanWNT to play friendly vs. South Korea on June 26 in Toronto

The Canadian women’s national team is set to return to BMO Field in Toronto for a friendly against South Korea on Sunday, June 26. The match is set to kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Playing Korea will help prepare the team for a crucial summer, where they look to qualify for both the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympic games via the Concacaf W Championship. They open that tournament, which will be played in Mexico, on July 5 against Trinidad and Tobago.

“This summer is a critical part of our new mountain and so we are pleased to secure a home game against a difficult side such as Korea Republic as part of our final preparations for the new Concacaf Championship tournament as well as face an Asian opponent ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” said women’s national team head coach Bev Priestman in a press release. “We love playing at home in front of our fans and it will give us the perfect send off and motivation to give both the World Cup and the early qualification for the Olympics our best shot.”

South Korea is currently ranked 17th in the world and was runners-up at the 2022 Asian Cup. Canada last faced Korea in the 2018 Algarve Cup, winning 3-0.
