CanWNT to play in 2023 SheBelieves Cup in February

Canada Soccer announced today that the Canadian women’s national team will return to the SheBelieves Cup, which will take place in February of 2023. The four-team round-robin tournament takes place annually in the United States.

Canada will be joined by the host Americans as well as Brazil and Japan. It will represent their first action of 2023, as they prepare for this summer’s World Cup in Australia & New Zealand. Canada opens that tournament on July 21 against Nigeria, while also taking on the Republic of Ireland and co-hosts Australia during the group stage.

The women’s national team recently took on seventh-ranked Brazil in a pair of friendlies in November, splitting a pair of 2-1 results. Canada last played the world number one, the United States, in July in the final of the Concacaf Championship, losing 1-0.

Canada opens the SheBelieves Cup against the hosts on February 16 in Orlando, Florida, before taking on Brazil on the 19 in Nashville, Tennessee and concluding against tenth-ranked Japan on February 22 in Frisco, Texas. Les Rouge last took part in the competition in 2021, going 1-2 with a win over Argentina in between losses to Brazil and the United States.
