Calgary – Cavalry FC has announced the signing of Honduran Jose Escalante to its inaugural season roster.

Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, José Escalante started his professional football career with Club Deportivo Olimpia (commonly known as Olimpia) in Honduras in 2012 before being loaned out to Honduras Progresso. Escalante traveled north in 2016 where is spent seasons with Rio Grande Valley FC (USL) and Houston Dynamo (MLS).

In 2018 Escalante joined San Antonio FC of the USL before heading back to Honduras to play for first division side Juticalpa FC. Escalante was formerly an under-20 Honduran international. During his time with the Toros, he played alongside current teammate and goalkeeper Marco Carducci.

“I feel very excited to be in Calgary, a spectacular city that I’m sure my family and I will enjoy,” Jose Escalante said. “I am also excited for the opportunity to play with Calvary FC, a great club with excellent players and staff. I will for sure learn a lot this year. I’m a very fast player that likes to attack the opponent and anxiously waiting for this new season to start.”

“Jose excites me in the attacking weaponry he will bring to our team,” Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said “He is a direct dribbler with excellent pace and a great crosser of the ball. I am confident he will get fans off their seat in anticipation when he picks up the ball in the attacking half. Given Jose has played in North America already through the MLS and USL shows he will adapt a lot easier than most imports, whilst also being young enough that his best years are still to come.”

Escalante is expected to arrive to Calgary later this month following training in the Dominican Republic and pending the approval of appropriate visas/work permits.
