Cavalry FC attacker Ali Musse named CPL Player of the Month for October

Cavalry FC winger Ali Musse was named on Wednesday as the Canadian Premier League’s player of the month for October 2023.

In the month as a whole, Musse had two goals and three assists, contributing to five of Cavalry’s seven goals — including all four goals they scored in the playoffs.

Musse successfully found the head of a teammate with a set-piece delivery assist in three consecutive games, including the final match of the regular season (a 3-0 win over Pacific FC), Cavalry’s playoff opener against Forge FC, and their semifinal win over Pacific to put them in the CPL Final.

In that same semifinal win, Musse also scored what ended up being the winning goal with his strike to cap off a well-worked corner routine. In the final against Forge, he scored an outrageous long-distance screamer in extra time to put Cavalry ahead with a goal that so nearly won his side the championship.

Prior to the final, Musse was announced as the winner of the 2023 CPL Players’ Player of the Year award, having been voted the top player in the league by his peers.

Musse is the seventh and final player to be named Player of the Month in 2023, and the second Cavalry player — following his teammate Daan Klomp, who won the award for September.

The full list of previous honourees is as follows:
