Cavalry FC defender Daan Klomp has been named the Canadian Premier League’s Player of the Month for September of 2023.
The 25-year-old has started every minute for Cavalry this season, the only outfield player in the league to have done so, and has been an essential piece in their CPL Shield-winning campaign as regular season champions.
Cavalry allowed just four goals in six matches during September, and have the best defensive record in the league this season. Klomp scored the match-winner in Cavalry’s 2-1 victory over Halifax at the Wanderers Grounds on September 13, while also picking up an assist on the match-winner against Atlético Ottawa to open the month. Klomp sits second in the league in successful passes having made 1411 this season, while maintaining a sterling 89.64 per cent accuracy.

Klomp is the first Cavalry player to be named as the CPL’s Player of the Month this season. He is the second consecutive central defender to be given the honour after Halifax Wanderers Daniel Nimick was named the league’s Player of the Month for August. Previous to that, Forge captain Kyle Bekker (July), Pacific’s Ayman Sellouf (June) and Sean Young (May), and Valour’s Diego Gutiérrez have been recipients.
