Cavalry FC pen new deals for Aird, Montgomery

Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) today announced that the club has agreed to new deals with attacking full-back Fraser Aird and central defender Callum Montgomery.

Aird joined Cavalry FC in 2022 and has signed a new deal which will see him with the club until 2025. In 2023, Aird was influential in the back line, providing a strong presence and leadership within the squad while adding a different element to attack and set plays.

“Both players are valuable components to our team tactics and chemistry,” said Cavalry head coach and GM Tommy Wheeldon Jr. “Fraser adds a different element to our game as an attacking full back that can help create or finish attacks. He is also a terrific professional that loves his training.”

Montgomery joined the club in February 2023, and has penned a one-year extension with a one-year option. As a strong central defender, Montgomery made 14 appearances after coming back from an early season injury.

“We’ve probably not seen the best of Callum yet due to a setback early in the year, but his level of play in the back end of the season was pivotal in us finishing strong,” said Wheeldon Jr. “He’s an excellent defender that can lead a backline and very comfortable with the ball at his feet.”

Cavalry now have 15 players under contract ahead of the 2024 season, plus their two CPL-U SPORTS Draft picks Caden Rogozinski and Rodane Cato, who will earn invites to preseason camp.
