Cavalry FC sign Sergio Camargo to contract extension

Cavalry announced on Friday that the club has agreed to a new deal with midfielder Sergio Camargo.

Camargo, one of Cavalry FC’s original signings from 2019, has extended his contract which will see him with the club until 2025, with an option that can be activated in 2026. During the 2023 season, Camargo was part of the club’s leadership team, acting as one of the captains alongside goalkeeper Marco Carducci. Scoring six goals and providing three assists in 2023, Camargo has established himself as one of the top players in the league over the past five seasons and leads the club in goals scored.

“There’s no other team I’d ever play for in the CPL,” said Camargo. “It means everything that the club continues to invest in me, and I will continue to give my all every time I step onto the pitch as I represent the club and its fans. I have felt at home since day one and I look forward to bringing more trophies to Calgary this season.”

“Sergio has really established himself as one of the top players in this league,” said Tommy Wheeldon Jr. Head Coach and General Manager, Cavalry FC. “As he has matured, he has added so much to his game in both attacking and defensive aspects. In addition to that, his excellent leadership skills bring others along with him. I’m delighted to get the opportunity to work with him for longer, his intelligence on the pitch and his emotional intelligence off the pitch is a rare combination and I’m thankful he wears our crest.”

The club will commence the 2024 CPL campaign as they travel to Hamilton, Ont. to face Forge FC on Saturday, April 13.

Cavalry will then return to ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows for the first time in 2024 to host Vancouver FC in the preliminary round of the TELUS Canadian Championship on Tuesday, April 23. The winner of the single-elimination match will advance to a quarterfinal tilt against Major League Soccer (MLS) side Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
