Cavalry FC striker Joe Mason entered the 2021 Canadian Premier League season with a high pedigree, and a strong year from the striker sees him take the 17th spot in the CPL50.

Mason, a former Republic of Ireland youth international, had hundreds of games of experience across the Championship and League One in England, as well as a handful of MLS games, before joining the Cavs.

He’s a lethal finisher when given opportunities to shoot, and found the back of the net seven times in 15 games this season.

He’s also an intelligent runner off the ball, capable of creating space for himself with his movement, and get himself into promising positions.

He linked up well with his teammates, and had he played the full 28-game season, would have almost certainly reached 10+ goals, and possibly even challenged Joao Morelli for the Golden Boot. Injuries and a quarantine requirement when he first arrived in Canada prevented that, but flashes of brilliance put him among the league’s best.

The rest of the CPL50 countdown is available here. Five more players will be revealed per day until December 22.
