eCPL qualifiers suspended as EA SPORTS FIFA 20 delays Global Series

eCPL qualifiers have been suspended until further notice, league officials announced late Friday, as Electronic Arts acts on all EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series events in the wake of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic

The eCPL, as an official league qualifier of the Global Series, falls under this classification.

Friday’s announcement means 12 qualifiers of the eCPL’s inaugural campaign that were scheduled for later this month and April have been suspended, as well as the eCPL Finals in Toronto this May. Four qualifier winners had already been crowned from Pacific FC, Cavalry FC, HFX Wanderers FC, and Atlético Ottawa.

This comes after the Canadian Premier League issued a stay on all pre-season activity for its eight clubs as COVID-19’s potential effects continue to shut down the world football.

Canada Soccer also cancelled a set of west coast friendlies for its senior men’s and women’s teams earlier on Friday, while CONCACAF suspended all competitions for 30 days, delaying the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship in Mexico, as well as the Concacaf Champions League.
