FC Edmonton announced on Monday that they have signed midfielder Adam Najem for the rest of the 2021 CPL season.
Najem, a 26-year-old from Clifton, New Jersey in the United States, played most recently for the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the USL Championship. He has 74 career USLC appearances to his name (with nine goals and 13 assists), across stints with Tampa Bay, Memphis 901, and Bethlehem Steel FC (with whom he was on loan from MLS affiliate Philadelphia Union). Najem played five times at the MLS level for Philadelphia across 2017 and 2018 before moving on. He also spent time with Wigry Suwalki in the Polish top flight in 2020.
A product of the New York Red Bulls academy, Najem was part of that club from 2006 to 2013. He also played NCAA Division I soccer for the University of Akron. At the international level, Najem represents Afghanistan, and he has 13 senior caps for the country.
“I am very excited to welcome Adam to our Edmonton team. I have coached against him in the USL Championship and have always been impressed with his impact in the games,” said FC Edmonton coach Alan Koch. “His national team experience will help him adapt to playing in a new environment and we expect to integrate him into our team immediately.”
The Eddies are next in action this Thursday, August 12, when they take on Valour FC at Clarke Stadium (9 pm ET/7 pm MT, on OneSoccer).
