FC Edmonton announced one more addition to their roster on Tuesday, revealing that they’ve signed Canadian-born forward Matthew Durrans for the 2021 CPL season.

Durrans, a 22-year-old striker from Vancouver, has played the entirety of his senior career to date in Germany. Most recently, he was on the books for 1860 Munich, where he played 35 total games for the reserve side (scoring eight goals) in the German fifth tier. He also appeared twice for the club’s senior team this past season, coming in off the bench to make his debut in the 3. Bundesliga.

After leaving Canada at age 14 to pursue a career in Germany, Durrans had stints with FC Deisenhofen and VfR Garching, although the majority of his time has been with 1860 Munich (with whom he also began his journey in the country). He’ll now return to his native Canada in search of more professional playing time with the Eddies.

“Matt is a Canadian striker who left for Germany at a young age and became a professional player in one of the world’s best developmental countries,” said FC Edmonton coach Alan Koch in a statement on social media.

Durrans is the 22nd player signed for Edmonton this season, as he joins an extensive cast of newcomers under Alan Koch. He’ll add further attacking prowess to the club, who have a 1-1-1 record so far through their first three games of the 2021 CPL campaign.
