Forge FC has drawn Liga MX giants Cruz Azul in the first round of the 2022 Concacaf Champions League, revealed Wednesday in a live draw held by Concacaf.
The Hamilton side, who qualified for next year’s edition of North America’s premier club competition by finishing as semi-finalists in Concacaf League this Fall, will kick off the round of 16 at home at Tim Hortons Field on 15-17 February of 2022 before going on the road for the second leg between 22–24 February 2022.
Cruz Azul, longtime giants of the Mexican game, have won the Champions League six times, most recently in 2013-14.
Forge will be the first Canadian Premier League side to play in the Champions League though CPL is set to be guaranteed places in the tournament in the coming years.
