The Gatorade Team of the Week for the seventeenth week of Canadian Premier League action in 2023, brought to you by Oliver Platt and Kristian Jack.

TOTW — Week 17

Goalkeeper

Rayane Yesli (Valour FC)

Highlight reel saves are becoming a weekly occurrence for the Valour keeper, as this week’s excellent performance saw an outstanding double stop on Shaan Hundal and Alejandro Díaz. Yesli made five saves in total as he kept his sixth clean sheet of the season.

Defenders

Carl Haworth (Atlético Ottawa)

The Atleti captain put the team on his back during a thrilling 3-3 draw with York United at TD Place Stadium on Saturday. He scored the opener on a clever individual effort and added a brilliant free-kick goal for Ottawa’s second. He also completed all five of his attempted dribbles.

Amer Didić (Pacific FC)

It took a herculean defensive effort but Pacific FC were able to hold on for three points at the Wanderers Grounds on Monday in big part thanks to the play of Amer Didić. The central defender made four clearances and was dominant in the air as Pacific held strong against the Wanderers’ attacking waves.

Daan Klomp (Cavalry FC)

Klomp was given credit by opposing manager Bobby Smyrniotis for how excellent he was on Friday at the back. He won four of five aerial duels, had two clearances and completed 48 of 57 passes attempted as Cavalry kept their first-ever clean sheet against Forge at ATCO Field.

James Cameron (Vancouver FC)

The 18-year-old fullback was outstanding down the left flank on Sunday, helping his side keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Valour. Cameron completed three dribbles, made four tackles and two interceptions during a busy match.

Midfielders

Sean Young (Pacific FC)

Young was back to his best on Monday in Halifax. His clipped ball over the top to Ongaro helped set up Pacific’s opening goal, and he created two chances and completed an outstanding 34 of his 36 passes during a very tidy performance in the centre of the park.

Manny Aparicio (Pacific FC)

The midfield engine that is Aparicio was at full speed on Monday in Halifax as he set the tempo for his side all match long. Aparicio set up Pacific’s winner with an incredible cross, completed four dribbles and won eleven duels against the Wanderers.

Goteh Ntignee (Cavalry FC)

Ntignee’s directness and football IQ to determine when to use his outstanding turn of pace ignited Cavalry’s three-goal performance against Forge on Friday. He set up the first goal before winning a penalty that led to Cavalry’s third goal. His pressing was also a major headache for the Forge backline as Ntignee won the ball back three times in the final third.

Sergio Camargo (Cavalry FC)

Camargo’s ability to operate between the lines has been a central part of Cavalry’s offensive success this season. That was the case again on Friday against Forge, as Camargo created four chances and had three successful dribbles.

Clément Bayiha (York United)

Bayiha was central to an outstanding start from the Nine Stripes on Saturday, beating his man down the line twice to assist on goals in the 24th and then 26th minute.

Forwards

Josh Heard (Pacific FC)

The Pacific captain scored the winner against Halifax on Monday, getting on the end of a pinpoint cross from Aparicio. It was a reward for a hardworking performance that saw him create two chances and win possession eight times.
