The Gatorade Team of the Week for the twenty-third week of Canadian Premier League action in 2023, brought to you by Kristian Jack and Oliver Platt.
Goalkeeper
Emil Gazdov (Pacific FC)
It was an outstanding week for the young goalkeeper, who just recently turned 20. Gazdov stopped a penalty and made five total saves to help Pacific earn a draw on the road in Ottawa, before allowing just a single goal in Pacific’s 4-1 win over York United this weekend.
Defenders
Daan Klomp (Cavalry FC)
Klomp might as well be the captain of the CPL Team of the Week at this point after a fifth straight inclusion in the team, and ten in total this season. It was once again fully deserved as the Cavalry central defender scored the winner midweek against Halifax before putting in a solid shift against Vancouver on Saturday, completing 85 of 91 passes and winning five of seven duels.
It's 2-0 for @CPLCavalryFC!

Thomas Meilleur-Giguère (Pacific FC)
Meilleur-Giguère scored his fourth of the season to give Pacific an 11th-minute lead at York Lions Stadium on Sunday. He also put in a sensational defensive shift against Ottawa midweek, making six clearances and winning six of 11 duels to help Pacific earn a point in the capital.
Zachary Fernandez (Halifax Wanderers)
Fernandez played a central role in Halifax’s dramatic 3-2 victory against Atlético Ottawa on Monday, with a brilliant move and cross to Tomas Giraldo for the stoppage-time winner. Against league-leaders Cavalry midweek, he won four tackles and eight of 13 duels.
Midfielders
Sean Young (Pacific FC)
Young was back to his best this week on both sides of the ball. He scored what ended up being the winning goal against York United on Sunday, while winning the ball nine times including twice in the final third. He also won six of seven duels during a quality performance on Wednesday in Ottawa.

Lorenzo Callegari (Halifax Wanderers)
Callegari delivered one of the assists of the season with his inch-perfect ball to Jordan Perruzza on Monday and is now third in the CPL in assists on the season with six. The league leader in passes this season added to that tally as well this week, completing 77 of 85 against Cavalry, before a solid 80 of 96 versus Atlético Ottawa.
Manny Aparicio (Pacific FC)
Aparicio added his fourth goal of the season on a quality header against York United. He was central to a pair of dominant Pacific FC midfield performances this past week alongside Yeates and Young, both of whom also appear in the Team of the Week.
Steffen Yeates (Pacific FC)
Yeates scored his first professional goal to help Pacific earn a draw with Atlético Ottawa on Wednesday. He followed that up with another outstanding performance against York this past weekend, earning an assist, completing all four of his attempted dribbles and 32 of 37 passes.
Forwards
Béni Badibanga (Forge FC)
The Canadian Premier League’s new deadball king delivered another magical freekick moment to hand Forge a crucial three points in Winnipeg. The technically outstanding Badibanga also created two chances and had seven attempted dribbles on Sunday.

Ali Musse (Cavalry FC)
One of the Canadian Premier League’s most dangerous attackers was back to his best this week during two more victories for Cavalry FC. First, he set up Klomp’s winner with a brilliant corner kick delivery and created four chances against Halifax, before winning a decisive penalty against Vancouver FC.
Massimo Ferrin (Halifax Wanderers)
Ferrin was relentless in attacking situations this week. He had four shots and five chances created in a loss to Cavalry midweek, before putting on an absolute show against Atlético Ottawa on Monday. He scored his side’s opening goal, had four shots on target and had four successful dribbles.
