Gatorade Team of the Week: HFX Wanderers take over CPL best XI

HFX Wanderers FC dominated the fourth Gatorade Team of the Week, with four players making the final first-round best XI.

Striker Akeem Garcia leads the way after scoring his league-leading fourth goal of The Island Games against Atlético Ottawa on Sunday. Winger Alessandro Riggi also found the back of the net against Ottawa, as he continued the good form shown against Valour FC in midweek.

At the back, defender Jems Geffrard and goalkeeper Christian Oxner complete the HFX contingent.

Meanwhile, Pacific FC’s right side combo of Marco Bustos and Kadin Chung arrive after a top-four-clinching performance against FC Edmonton. Chung’s setup and Bustos’ beautiful late winner kept PFC alive on Prince Edward Island.

Manny Aparicio departs PEI with his York9 FC after a week highlighted by this brilliant match-winning free kick against FC Edmonton. Aparicio completed seven line-breaking passes against the Eddies, according to SportLogiq.

Valour’s Moses Dyer and Brett Levis make their team of the week debuts. Dyer was named Gatorade Man of the Match in Valour’s 2-2 draw against Forge after scoring on a game-high four shots and two key passes. Levis also starred in the draw, assisting on Yohan Le Bourhis’ goal and posting four tackles.

Viti Martinez scored arguably the biggest goal in Atlético Ottawa’s history last Wednesday against Pacific when, in the 90th minute, he smashed home a game-winning goal to keep his team’s season alive.

Dominick Zator rounds out the Gatorade Team of the Week after starring in Cavalry’s clean sheet victory over York9 FC.
