Gatorade Team of the Week (Week 13)

The Gatorade Team of the Week for the thirteenth week of Canadian Premier League action in 2023, brought to you by Charlie O’Connor-Clarke and Oliver Platt.

CPL TOTW Week 13

Goalkeeper

Triston Henry (Forge FC)

Henry kept his fourth clean sheet of the season, making two quality saves during a dominant performance for his Forge FC side against York United. His early stop on Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé, in particular, was critical to keeping his side in front.

Defenders

Fraser Aird (Cavalry FC)

In perhaps his best performance since joining Cavalry, Aird scored the match-winner with a lovely strike after a clever give-and-go with Myer Bevan. He was a constant threat down the right flank against the league leaders, Pacific, creating two further chances, completing two dribbles while winning possession back 10 times.

Rocco Romeo (Vancouver FC)

Vancouver FC picked up a crucial three points at home against Halifax, and a big part of that was the leadership at the back of Romeo. The central defender made eight clearances and had a team-leading 53 touches.

Daan Klomp (Cavalry FC)

Klomp was a rock at the back for Cavalry as they held on late for a huge away result against Pacific. He made six clearances and was key in possession, completing 51 of his 55 passes.

Aboubakary Sacko (Atlético Ottawa)

Sacko will still be having nightmares about a few of the chances he missed on Sunday afternoon, but he was outstanding down the left flank for Ottawa regardless. He had three big chances, created three chances, and won four tackles against Valour.

Midfielders

Ollie Bassett (Atlético Ottawa)

Back-to-back weeks with goals from the penalty spot and back-to-back inclusions in the CPL team of the week for Bassett, who could have easily had more during a strong offensive performance against Valour. Bassett also hit the post on one of his other five shot attempts and created two chances during a 2-0 victory for Atleti.

Kyle Bekker (Forge FC)

Bekker was his dominant self against York United in a stunning victory against York United, pulling the strings in midfield for Forge. He had an assist on five chances created, and completed 91.1 per cent of his passes, including 21 in the final third and six crosses.

Eryk Kobza (Cavalry FC)

Cavalry have a strong history of finding gems in the CPL – U SPORTS draft, and Eryk Kobza looks to be the latest addition to that list. The midfielder scored his first CPL goal against Pacific this weekend, during an outstanding performance in the middle of the park, winning the ball back 15 times, and completing 55 of 63 attempted passes.

Forwards

Tristan Borges (Forge FC)

Borges found pockets of space between the York lines throughout Sunday’s match and did plenty of damage from those areas. He played a key role in the opening goal, assisted the second and scored the third, while creating three chances.

Mikaël Cantave (Vancouver FC)

Cantave has made an instant impact with Vancouver since joining the club from Cavalry, showing impressively quick chemistry with his teammates. He scored the winner and played a key role in Vancouver’s opener against Halifax on Friday. He was also full of energy and effort, winning six tackles, and contesting a stunning 25 duels.

Terran Campbell (Forge FC)

The Canadian Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer recorded his first career hat trick — bringing his strike rate on the season up to seven goals. That is already more than he recorded all of last season in the CPL with Forge, with five of those goals coming against the Nine Stripes. He is now tied with Myer Bevan for the league’s Golden Boot lead.
