The Gatorade Team of the Week for the twenty-first week of Canadian Premier League action in 2023, brought to you by Kristian Jack and Oliver Platt.

TOTW — Week 21

Goalkeeper

Adisa De Rosario (York United)

The 18-year-old goalkeeper made an absolutely massive one-on-one save that proved crucial to York United earning three points in Halifax. He made four saves in total, and did an exceptional job of claiming crosses to make sure York held on for all three points.

Defenders

Daan Klomp (Cavalry FC)

The defender’s distribution was again on brilliant display against Atlético Ottawa on Saturday. He played a role on Akio’s match winner, and completed 51 of his 56 passes. Defensively, he won five of seven duels.

Roger Thompson (York United)

Thompson’s headed goal was the difference for York in a massive holiday Monday victory against Halifax. The York captain completed 91.1 per cent of his passes to keep the Nine Stripes on the ball throughout the match.

Tass Mourdoukoutas (York United)

Mourdoukoutas set up York’s opening goal with a dangerous ball behind the Halifax backline that Austin Ricci was able to head into the back of the net. Mourdoukoutas also made 10 clearances to keep the Nine Stripes in front.

Midfielders

William Akio (Cavalry FC)

One of the league’s biggest game-changers since he returned to the CPL, William Akio scored his fifth goal in just seven matches on Saturday. This time, it was a 97th-minute winner against Atlético Ottawa to consolidate Cavalry’s position at the top of the table.

Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson (Forge FC)

Jönsson helped Forge to control the midfield on Sunday with a brilliant performance that saw him complete 49 of 57 passes and winning possession back eight times.

Charlie Trafford (Cavalry FC)

Trafford was the prototypical destroyer in midfield on Saturday for Cavarly. He won eight on nine duels against Ottawa, winning possession back a stunning 11 times during the match.

Ayman Sellouf (Pacific FC)

The Canadian Premier League’s leading supersub lived up to his reputation on Saturday, coming off the bench to score a crucial 85th minute winner to get Pacific back in the win column. Joining the match in the 54th minute, Sellouf made seven crosses and created a chance.

Forwards

Manny Aparicio (Pacific FC)

Aparicio’s clever delivery to Adonijah Reid led to the opening goal on Saturday night. He also attempted 22 passes in the final third, won seven on nine duels, and won three fouls during a characteristically all-action performance.

Sergio Camargo (Cavalry FC)

The bow and arrow was out for Camargo at TD Place on Saturday as he sniped home the opener from close range. He was a catalyst in attack for Cavalry, attempting five dribbles, and winning seven of 14 duels.

Woobens Pacius (Forge FC)

Pacius finished off his second career hat trick on Sunday to give Forge a 3-0 victory on the road against Vancouver FC. It might mean a late entrant to the CPL Golden Boot race as Pacius is now just three behind teammate Terran Campbell and Ollie Bassett of Ottawa for the league lead.
