Gatorade Team of the Week (Week 4)

The Gatorade Team of the Week for the fourth week of Canadian Premier League action in 2024, brought to you by Kristian Jack and Oliver Platt.

CPL Team of the Week 2024 — Week four

Goalkeeper

Nathan Ingham (Atlético Ottawa)

Ingham helped Atleti to their first clean sheet of the CPL season against Valour FC, making a pair of good stops, including parrying away a long-distance effort from Jordan Faria. His quality on the ball was also key for Atlético Ottawa in possession as he completed 41 of 48 attempted passes on Sunday.

Defenders

Fraser Aird (Cavalry FC)

Down the right flank, Aird has been one of the top chance creators in the Canadian Premier League so far this season with his incredible crossing ability. He set up Tobias Warschewski’s opener on Friday against Vancouver FC with a deft cross into the box, one of four chances created on ten total crosses.

Amer Didić (Atlético Ottawa)

Didić played a key role in Ottawa’s clean sheet on Sunday in a 2-0 victory against Valour. He was outstanding in possession, with a match-high 97 touches and 79 of 84 attempted passes completed (94 per cent). He also won four of five duels and made eight clearances during a dominant defensive display.

Aly Ndom (Pacific FC)

Ndom’s composure on and off the ball is a big reason Pacific FC still have not conceded a goal in 2024 CPL action. He completed 86.4 per cent of his passes out of the back on Saturday against York and won all three of his duels contested. He also played a key role in the opening goal with a header off a corner from which Moore scored the rebound.

Bradley Kamdem (Cavalry FC)

Kamdem put in a tireless defensive shift against Vancouver, keeping his intensity high until the final whistle. He contested 11 duels, and committed four fouls as he wasn’t afraid to get stuck in when looking to thwart Vancouver FC’s attacking efforts.

Midfielders

Steffen Yeates (Pacific FC)

Yeates was a key catalyst in attack for Pacific FC on Saturday. His excellent corner delivery resulted in Pacific’s opening goal, one of four chances he created during the match. He also had three shot attempts and was rather unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet during an otherwise outstanding performance.

Cédric Toussaint (Pacific FC)

Toussaint absolutely bossed the midfield on Saturday against his former side, York United. The 23-year-old won five tackles, nine of his ten duels contested, and completed 42 of his 52 attempted passes. He was also fouled four times as he consistently thwarted attacking moments from the Nine Stripes.

Charlie Trafford (Cavalry FC)

Trafford scored his first goal for Cavalry FC this week in stunning fashion, as he ran through the Vancouver FC midfield before slotting home a lovely cross-goal finish. It was part of an all-round dominant display in midfield, as he also contested 15 duels, winning eight.

Forwards

Rubén Del Campo (Atlético Ottawa)

Del Campo is heating up, with four goals now in his past three matches in all competitions. He scored the opener just 19 minutes into Atleti’s match against Valour on Sunday, and despite not seeing much of the ball worked very hard without it contesting eight duels.

Tobias Warschewski (Cavalry FC)

The Cavalry attacker scored his first two goals of the Canadian Premier League season during a dominant display against Vancouver FC on Friday. His headed goal, and powerful penalty were the reward for five shot attempts. He was also fouled four times, completed three dribbles and won 13 duels during an all-action performance.

Reon Moore (Pacific FC)

Moore is up and running in the 2024 Canadian Premier League season with his first goal proving to be the winner against York United on Saturday. Moore was also outstanding in his hold-up play, especially during a dominant Pacific first half, creating two chances, completing 88.9 per cent of his passes and winning all four of his aerial duels.
