The Halifax Wanderers confirmed on Wednesday the contract status of the club’s current roster following the conclusion of the 2023 Canadian Premier League season.
Ten players have guaranteed contracts for the 2024 season: Goalkeeper Yann Fillion – defenders Wesley Timoteo, Dan Nimick and Zachary Fernandez – midfielders Lorenzo Callegari, Tomas Giraldo, Andre Rampersad, and Callum Watson – and forwards Tiago Coimbra and Massimo Ferrin. Options for Callegari, Giraldo, Nimick and Watson were automatically triggered after appearance clauses in each of their contracts were met.
The Wanderers have club options on ten players and have until Dec. 31 to trigger those options for 2024: Defenders Cristian Campagna, Riley Ferrazzo, Doneil Henry, Ryan James, Cale Loughrey and Jake Ruby – midfielders Aidan Daniels and Armaan Wilson – and forwards Théo Collomb and Fumpa Mwandwe.
Contracts for goalkeeper Aiden Rushenas (CPL/U SPORTS) and midfielder Mo Omar expire at the end of the year, while development permits for defender Yorgos Gavas and midfielder Camilo Vasconcelos have expired. Gavas is eligible for new development permits in 2024, while Vasconcelos is no longer a U18 player. Forward João Morelli announced his retirement on November 3. Forward Jordan Perruzza returned to Toronto FC at the conclusion of his loan.
“We are more than grateful for the work each of our players put into the season we had, and now we have the difficult part of considering what is best for the club and for the players going forward,” Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar said. “We want to keep this core together, and we’re excited to be working towards that while at the same time always trying to improve.”
