The Canadian Premier League announced on Tuesday that the second round of the 2020 season will kick off next week and conclude during the third week of September.

The second group stage of The Island Games begins with a doubleheader on Sept. 9, and will continue three days later with another pair of games, before wrapping up with a final doubleheader on Sept. 15.

The top two sides at the end of the second round advance to the CPL Finals on Sept. 19 and will face off in a winner-take-all, one-match championship.

The winner of The Island Games will not only be crowned CPL champions for 2020 and hoist the North Star Shield, but it will also qualify for the 2021 Concacaf League, and advance to the final of this year’s Canadian Championship against the MLS representative.

The first round of the CPL regular season is currently in its final week, with seven of the league’s eight teams still in the mix  — the top four sides at the conclusion of the round robin this weekend advance to the second round.

None of the second-round berths have been clinched at the moment, with a mere six points separating first-place Forge FC and seventh-place Atlético Ottawa.

The exact matchups of the second round (as noted at the top of this page) will be determined once the first round standings are finalized.

All second-round matches and the finals from The Island Games will take place at UPEI Artificial Turf Field in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and will air live on OneSoccer.  The matches on Sept. 12 and 19th will be broadcast on CBC.

Select matches will also air on FS2 (United States), StarTimes (Africa) and 1Sports (India).
