Just four games into the 2021 Canadian Premier League season, one club has already filled its quota for U-21 minutes for the whole year.
York United FC, with five Canadians under the age of 21 in their starting lineup on Wednesday night for a 2-1 win over Valour FC, passed the 1,500-minute mark to become the first club to meet the newly-increased threshold. As a result, they’re well out in front of this year’s CPL U-21 Minutes Leaderboard, presented by Jones Deslauriers/Navacord.
No other club has passed 1,000 minutes yet, although a few are on pace to be at or near the 1,500-minute quota at the end of The Kickoff in Winnipeg later this month. Valour FC are the next-closest side to hitting their threshold, with 809 U-21 minutes so far.
