Kyle Bekker on OneSoccer Hangout: Memories of hoisting the North Star Shield

Wednesday’s OneSoccer Player & Pundit Hangout session featured Forge FC captain Kyle Bekker.

In talking to OneSoccer hosts Kurt Larson, Oliver Platt and Adam Jenkins, Bekker recalled his memories of hoisting the North Star Shield after Forge beat Cavalry FC in Finals 2019 last November.

“We just had such a good group, and as the season went on you saw us buy into what we were doing, and it became that much more enjoyable. We were pretty connected and when we won, you saw it in the celebrations,” Bekker recalled.

Forge’s captain also talked about his stint with Toronto FC from 2013 to 2014 (where he found playing time tough to come by) after playing NCCA soccer at Boston College.

“There were so many moving pieces (at TFC) that it was tough for guys to get a footing, for me personally,” Bekker offered.

Other topics discussed on OneSoccer’s Player & Pundit Hangout included how Bekker is dealing with this current period of self-isolation, his caps for the Canadian national team, his trials with Dutch club Ajax and English side Crystal Palace as a youngster, and much more.

“It was tough to come back (to Canada), but that was the reality of the situation. It was a huge experience for me because I got to see how it was done at the highest level at that time,” Bekker said of his trial with Ajax.
