Pacific FC announced on Wednesday the release of four players from their roster as the club looks towards its sixth season in the Canadian Premier League. Goalkeeper Kieran Baskett, midfielder David Brazão, forward Abdul Binate and defender Jalen Watson will leave the club.
“We work to create a family-like environment at Pacific FC so it’s difficult to say goodbye to players who have been part of our group,” said Jamar Dixon, Manager of Football, Pacific FC. “We wish each of these young players the best in the next chapter of their football careers – once a Trident always a Trident.”
Baskett joined Pacific for the 2023 season and split time in goal with Emil Gazdov for the first half of the year. Making 10 appearances in the CPL regular season and one in the Canadian Championship, Baskett kept four clean sheets in his tenure with Pacific.
Brazão returns to his home country of Portugal after spending one year with the Tridents. The midfielder appeared for Pacific 13 times this season, with two goals and two assists.
Binate, who played as a winger and as a centre-forward, came to Pacific in 2022 from Laval, Quebec after playing for CF Montreal’s academy’s U-23 squad. Binate made three appearances for Pacific this season including making his professional debut.
Watson, who was on loan to Pacific FC from Toronto FC II, arrived on the Island in August to train with the team. He had previously worked with Merriman in the Vancouver Whitecaps FC academy where he played in his youth. The loan was completed at the end of the 2023 season, and Watson now returns to TFC II.
Pacific FC finished in fourth place in the regular season, earning 40 points before embarking on a three-match playoff run that saw them through to the semifinals where they were defeated by a hot Cavalry FC squad. The next additions to the PFC group will take place on Dec. 14 when the CPL-U SPORTS Draft is held.
