Pacific FC re-sign defenders Amer Đidić and Thomas Meilleur-Giguère

Pacific FC today announced the re-signing of defending duo Amer Đidić and Thomas Meilleur-Giguère. The two look forward to continuing their powerhouse reign in Pacific’s backline.

“TMG and Amer formed an excellent partnership towards the end of the season and put in some very strong performances together,” said James Merriman, Head Coach, Pacific FC. “We are happy to have them back for the coming season.”

Meilleur-Giguère, 25, known to his teammates and fans as TMG, made 34 appearances for Pacific in 2022, for a total of 2836 minutes. The native of Repentigny, Que. was a defensive mainstay for Pacific in his third season with the club and had one goal to his name in 2022.

“TMG is a warrior on the field and very important for our team,” said Merriman. “He puts his body on the line and is a true defender. He continues to develop both as a central defender and leader in our group.”

The 2022 season was Đidić’s first with Pacific. He made 33 appearances and played 2722 minutes of action. At six-foot-three he is tough to beat on the backline.

Đidić, 28, scored two goals this season, including a late, game-tying goal against York United FC in the Canadian Championship in May. Đidić emigrated to Edmonton from Bosnia and Herzegovina when he was young and previously played for FC Edmonton before moving West in February. He was nominated for the Canadian Premier League’s inaugural Defender of the Year award in October 2022.

“Amer grew into the season, adjusting to our way of playing. He is a top defender in this league and incredibly motivated for more next season,” said Merriman.  “We believe in his potential and that his best football is in front of him.”
