HIGHLIGHTS: FC Edmonton and Valour FC split the points in 0-0 draw

Valour FC snapped their losing streak, and FC Edmonton picked up a second consecutive draw, as the two sides drew 0-0 at Clarke Stadium on Thursday night.

Both sides made changes to their squads — with Matt Silva getting the start in goal for Valour, and new signing Adam Najem entering the FC Edmonton midfield among the changes. There was also a different coach on the sidelines for FC Edmonton, as assistant coach Jay Bhindi stood in for the suspended Alan Koch.

The first half was a relatively uneventful one, with neither side really challenging the other’s goalkeeper very much and combining for three shots on target. A header from Amer Didic was The Eddies’ best chance of the opening 45 minutes, while Raphael Ohin fired a pair of shots at Connor James from outside the area that never really troubled the Edmontonian.

FC Edmonton thought they deserved a penalty just before the 30 minute mark. After Easton Ongaro’s foot didn’t connect with the ball on an attempted shot, he appeared to be pushed from behind, and went to ground. The referee didn’t call anything, however, and Ongaro would end up being booked for dissent as he argued his case.

Moses Dyer nearly gave Valour the lead in the 58th minute, curling a shot toward goal, but his effort came back off the crossbar and away from danger.

Both goalkeepers would be called upon again in the second half, especially Silva, with a big save by the Valour shotstopper on a powerful Easton Ongaro shot from close range one of several he’d make in the second half. The pick of the bunch was an athletic save to deny a Matthew Durrans header with a few minutes left in the match.

Five more scoreless minutes of stoppage time would follow, and the match would finish tied at 0-0.
