Report: Cavs’ Chris Serban sustains potentially season-ending knee injury

Cavalry FC’s backline has taken a serious blow.

According to AFTN, Cavs’ defender Chirs Serban is set to miss possibly the entire 2019 season with a knee injury.

“We’re still waiting to get results back, but unfortunately, our hunch is that he’s going to miss the season,” head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said.

Serban, 23, reportedly sustained the injury in the club’s pre-season friendly with FC Edmonton in late March. The versatile defender missed the team’s pre-season trip to the Dominican Republic.

Teammate Marco Carducci spoke to AFTN about the injury, describing it as “non-contact.”

“When we were in the Dominican, we got the news that he was going to need surgery and get some repairs,” Carducci said. “It’s a blow. It’s difficult for us, but I know Serbs will come back stronger.”

Cavalry is little over a week away from hosting their inaugural match on May 4 when they welcome York9 FC to Spruce Meadows (1:30 p.m. MT/3:30 p.m. ET, OneSoccer).
